Alonso started as Minardi’s test and reserve driver in 2000 and soon joined its race team in 2001. He scored no points and finished 23rd overall in the Driver’s Championship.
In 2002, Alonso joined Renault as a test driver and was promoted to the race team by 2003. He went on to break the record of the youngest Formula One race winner at the Hungarian Grand Prix later in the year. With four podium finishes in 2003, he was sixth in the World Drivers’ Championship with 55 points.
Alonso battled with Kimi Raikkonen for the World Championship in 2005 and eventually emerged as a Champion. He became the youngest World Drivers’ Champion with seven victories, six pole positions, and fourteen podium finishes. He raked up 133 points.
In 2006, Alonso signed a contract expansion with Renault and was in fierce competition with Michael Schumacher to win the championship. After a close duel, Alonso won the championship. He thus became Formula One’s youngest two-time World Champion.
Alonso soon joined Ferrari in 2010 and continued to drive for them till 2014. Despite several attempts, Alonso and Ferrari could not win any title. He returned to McLaren in 2015 and stayed there until 2019.
After a two-year sabbatical, Alonso signed to drive for the Alpine F1 team for the 2021 and 2022 seasons. He recently had an epic wheel-to-wheel fight with George Russell where he finished P10. In 2023, he competed for Aston Martin and was the third best player in Formula One.
He will race for Aston Martin in the 2024 season.
