Dave Grohl, the lead singer of the Foo Fighters, became Nirvana’s drummer in 1990. He brought a guitar to his tours and composed music. Grohl withheld these songs from the rest of the band because, as he admitted in 1997, “I was terrified by [front man Kurt Cobain’s compositions].

“I decided it would be better to keep my tunes to myself”. Grohl occasionally reserved studio time to record demos and covers of songs he loved, and in 1992, he even released a cassette of some of those songs under the alias “Late!” called Pocket watch.

American rock group Foo Fighters was founded in Seattle, Washington, in 1994. Dave Grohl, the drummer for Nirvana, started it as a solo endeavor after the band disbanded in the wake of Kurt Cobain’s suicide. The squad was known as “foo fighters” because of the UFOs and other airborne phenomena that Allied aircraft pilots witnessed during World War II.

History of the Band, Foo Fighters

Before the 1995 first album Foo Fighters was released, which included Grohl as the only official member, Grohl enlisted Sunny Day Real Estate’s former bassist Nate Mendel and drummer William Goldsmith, as well as guitarist Pat Smear from Nirvana’s touring band, to round out the roster.

Taylor Hawkins and Franz Stahl were hired to take their places, but Stahl was let go before the group’s third album, There Is Nothing Left to Lose (1999), could be completed. Until Chris Shiflett joined as the band’s lead guitarist after There Is Nothing Left to Lose was finished, the band briefly performed as a trio. The group’s fourth album, One by One was released in 2002. In Your Honour, a two-disc album by the group released in 2005, included a mixture of stronger music and acoustic tracks. In 2007, the band Foo Fighters issued its sixth album, Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace.

Four of the band’s albums have garnered Grammy Awards for Best Rock Album during the course of their career. The band alone has sold 12 million albums in the US as of 2015.
