Why Theo Walcott could reach new heights under Marco Silva’s guidance
Towards the end of his Arsenal career, Theo Walcott was a nearly forgotten figure. He barely started games anymore and it was evident that he had plunged quite deep down the pecking order. However, at Everton, he seems like a new and rejuvenated player.
The talented attacker moved to Goodison Park last January and since then, he has played a key role for the Toffees. He worked wonders under Sam Allardyce and he has continued his good form under current manager Marco Silva as well.
But to be fair, the former Watford boss deserves credit for successfully extracting the best out of Walcott. Known for a pacy yet attacking style of play, a speed machine like Walcott is clearly thriving in an Everton jersey.
As far as the club are concerned, they are yet to adjust completely to Silva’s ways but Walcott has taken his game to a different level in the ongoing season. Ideally, the manager’s tactics are tailor-made for players who can run relentlessly and put in a decent work rate.
Walcott ticks both those boxes and the 29-year-old looks like a new version of himself. He started all four Premier League games before the international break as theToffees secured one win and three draws. The Toffees have not made the perfect start to the new season but the initial signs have been promising. They are a work in progress but Walcott? He seems like a menace and has done some admirable work in the final third.
With two goals to his name in the new campaign, Walcott also assisted the winning goal against Southampton. Given his pace and creativity, the former Arsenal star is truly thriving in Silva’s free-flowing and high-intensity style of play. And based on what we have seen so far, Walcott could establish himself as a key man for the Toffees this season.
During his initial days at Arsenal, Walcott was a force to reckon with. His stupendous displays had even made him a regular for the England side. However, injuries and whatnot led to a massive slump in form but perhaps under Silva’s guidance, Walcott could reclaim his lost glory and dominate the Premier League once again.
