Forget Alderweireld – Here’s why Tottenham would not miss the Belgian if they sign this £50m-rated Serie A ace

Tottenham Opinion: Why Spurs should go all out to sign Joachim Andersen?

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Tottenham are interested in signing Sampdoria star Joachim Andersen in the summer. But he is rated around £50million and is also wanted by Juventus.

As per the Tuttomercatoweb, Juventus, however, have dropped their interest in Joachim Andersen, clearing the path for Tottenham for a potential summer swoop. This should be music to Mauricio Pochettino and Spurs’ ears and the north Londoners should go all out to sign the Dane this summer.

Pochettino has a massive summer in front of him after failing to significantly challenge for the Premier League title this past season. He has worked wonders at Tottenham and has guided the club to the Champions League final, without spending a single penny in the last two transfer windows.

Regardless of what happens in the Champions League final against Liverpool next month, it’s time for Spurs to fully back Pochettino in the ongoing transfer window. There are a couple of areas the Argentinean must address ahead of the 2019/20 season, with the midfield being the priority. But Tottenham have had some defensive problems as well and it’s imperative for Pochettino to solve it.

Toby Alderweireld’s future at Tottenham remains up in the air. The Belgian has a £25million clause in his contract that has become active since the start of this summer’s transfer window and will be valid up to the final two weeks. Young Davinson Sanchez has had ups and downs in the 2018/19 campaign and Jan Vertonghen is on the wrong side of 30.

Thus, bolstering the central defensive ranks is the need of the hour and Pochettino would do a brilliant job by signing Joachim Andersen.

Andersen, 22, has impressed for Sampdoria this season, with the ace on the verge of being capped at the senior level for Denmark. Standing at 6ft 4in tall, the Danish centre-back is strong and commanding in the air, and he is also an excellent reader of the game – something that helps him compensate for pace. He is also a real leader and a good organiser of the backline.

A ball-playing defender, Andersen can break the lines with his passing and initiate attacks from the back. Due to his towering frame, he is an asset to have on both ends of the pitch. As Tottenham are vulnerable to losing Alderweireld due to a release clause in his contract, Andersen appears to be a solid option to replace the Belgian.

Verdict

Tottenham must spend big on Andersen, because in today’s market and age, £50million for someone of the Dane’s quality and potential would surely have to be considered as excellent value for money.
