Why Arsenal must replace Emery with Allegri and not Arteta
Arsenal are on the verge of sacking under-fire manager Unai Emery, as per a report by Goal (h/t Daily Express). After a rather disappointing start to the ongoing campaign, the Gunners find themselves placed 8th in the table with 18 points from 13 games.
While that doesn’t sound bad on paper, it must be noted that runaway leaders Liverpool have already registered a whopping 37 points. The wide gap is a clear indication of the kind of vast differences in their performances and that is reason enough for the Arsenal board to make a definitive change.
According to a report by The Guardian, Massimiliano Allegri and Mikel Arteta have been touted as potential replacements for the Frenchman. The former, 52, most recently managed Juventus and enjoyed a lot of successes with the Serie A giants.
Arteta, on the other hand, is a modern-day Arsenal legend and is currently working under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City as an assistant manager. But when it comes down to it, who should the Gunners ultimately turn to?
Mikel Arteta
The Cityzens’ domestic dominance in recent times has been well-documented. While Arteta has tasted a fair share of success at the Etihad, it must be noted that he has done so with a celebrated boss like Guardiola at the helm.
A reunion with former player Arteta does sound like a good choice on paper but considering the dire situation that the Gunners find themselves in, appointing the 37-year-old would be risky since the Spaniard is completely untested as a main boss in the Premier League.
Max Allegri
The only Italian manager to have five Scudetti in a row, Allegri has enjoyed an illustrious career in the Serie A over the years.
Along with Juventus, he has also managed the likes of AC Milan. While the temperament and physicality of the Premier League are a lot more demanding and challenging than the Serie A, Allegri is, in fact, one of the most successful managers right now.
Verdict
All said and done, Allegri is far more experienced than Arteta and hence, the Gunners would be wise to take a punt on the former Juventus coach.
