Three strikers that Chelsea can target instead of Callum Wilson
Chelsea are looking to add goals to their game and watching Alvaro Morata struggle to find the back of the net has been a terrible experience for all involved. While the former Real Madrid man was supposed to be their replacement for Diego Costa, Morata has struggled to do so and now it looks like his time is over at Stamford Bridge.
The Mirror has revealed that Sevilla want the 26-year-old and Calciomercato has revealed that Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund are also in the race. However, for Chelsea, this means that it’s time to find another option and given the state of the current transfer market, there is little to choose from.
While Bournemouth star Callum Wilson is a fine option, the Blues should target someone more consistent and that being said, here are three potential options.
#3 Andrea Belotti
He arrived four years ago from US Palermo around the same time Paulo Dybala joined Juventus and since then Belotti has taken over the captain’s armband for Tornio. While his form did dip terribly last season amid links of a move to AC Milan, this season the Italian has returned to his best, with 9 goals in 20 appearances.
However, it’s not just his goals that make him worth the buy, it’s Belotti’s ability to combine brilliantly together with any star that makes him tick. Even for the Italian national team, the 26-year-old has been crucial to their successes. Like Olivier Giroud, his link-up play is second to none.
And with Eden Hazard and Christian Pulisic on either side of him in the near future, under Maurizio Sarri’s tutelage, there is a chance Andrea Belotti could become Chelsea’s next Diego Costa.
#2 Edinson Cavani
The only reason that the Uruguayan isn’t higher up the list is that he is 31 and isn’t getting any younger. But that hasn’t stopped Cavani from scoring goals for fun with the PSG star netting 13 goals so far this season, adding to his lead as PSG’s record goal-scorer.
A title he took over from Zlatan Ibrahimovic last season, the 31-year-old has now made it his own, and it looks like he will continue to do that. While injuries have played a major part in his performances this season, there is no doubting the 31-year old’s work rate. He not only does the job offensively but also goes over and above when his side is defending, making him a valuable asset.
Not to mention, his ability to play second fiddle to Neymar and Kylian Mbappe in terms of popularity adds to his value. While the two world-record players are PSG’s superstars, there is no doubt that Edinson Cavani sits a very close second.
#1 Ciro Immobile
190 goals in 351 games, that’s not bad by anyone’s standards. Add another 43 assists and you get a very happy manager. Despite all that, why is Ciro Immobile still not consider to be among Europe’s top marksmen? Last season saw the Lazio man finish as the Serie A’s top scorer with 29 goals, winning the Capocannoniere for the second time.
He became only the second Lazio striker to score 20+ goals in two consecutive seasons. But that’s enough of his stats; the 28-year-old has so much more than goals to offer any side in the world and that’s been shown at Roma. His attacking intelligence is second to none and so is his movement in front of the goal.
Only Lionel Messi, Mohamed Salah and Harry Kane managed to score more than the 41 goals that the Italian plundered last season. All that has led to him finding the back of the net 10 times this season, which puts him just four goals behind five-time Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo.
