Why Rangers must not let go of Glen Kamara
According to France Football (h/t Daily Record), Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara has caught the attention of Ligue 1 side Marseille.
The 24-year-old defensive midfielder has a been a key player for Rangers, under manager Steven Gerrard, making 39 appearances in total this season. However, Kamara impressed Marseille boss Andre Villas-Boas after his displays at the Euro 2020 qualifiers for his national side Finland. (h/t Daily Record)
The Rangers star’s rising popularity in Scotland has seen him emerge as one of the regular faces in his national squad, making 19 appearances for them since his debut in November 2017. Villas-Boas is in search of a young face in the middle. This is because his defensive midfielders, Kevin Strootman and Gregory Sertic, are already past their thirties.
Marseille finished second behind champions Paris Saint-Germain in the shortened Ligue 1 this season. The Portuguese coach is aware that his team needs reinforcements in the middle if they wish to stay at the top for long and has now turned his attention to €8m-rated Kamara. (h/t Daily Record)
Kamara offers stability in the middle for Rangers
Meanwhile, Kamara has established himself at the Ibrox Stadium since arriving from rivals Dundee for a sum of around £50,000 back in January 2019.
The midfielder soon found himself in the mix of things, featuring in eight of Rangers’ final 10 games in the Premiership last season. Acting as a shield in front of the Rangers defence, Kamara helped them win four games and draw three as Gerrard’s side finished second in the table.
Kamara has been equally impressive for the Scottish giants this term also, helping the team to 13 clean sheets in his 19 league appearances. With Kamara offering a clear picture of his defensive capabilities in the middle, there is no questioning the Rangers’ midfielder’s importance to the team.
He has also been part of 15 of Rangers’ overall 21 league wins this season, signifying his worth within the Gerrard-led side. His defensive abilities in the midfield have seen Rangers concede just 19 goals this season.
Rangers, meanwhile, have just another defensive midfielder – Andy Halliday in the side. However, he has been far from impressive, making just six league appearances so far. Hence, it would be imprudent if Rangers let go of Kamara, who has been a mainstay in their midfield in recent times.

Verdict
It is obvious that Rangers lack depth in their defensive midfield role. Hence, selling Kamara will only put them in a spot of bother. Moreover, he has been one of Gerrard’s key players in recent times and has his best years ahead of him. Hence, they should ward off all interest for Kamara and keep him with the club as long as possible.
