Arsenal Opinion: Why James Forrest will be a top fit for the Gunners?
Back in January, Arsenal were interested in signing Celtic star James Forrest. However, a move didn’t materialise and the Scotsman stayed put at Parkhead to help the Hoops make it eight successive Scottish Premiership titles in a row.
James Forrest, 27, has enjoyed another brilliant season at Parkhead, having scored 17 goals and supplied 20 assists in 55 games for Celtic across all competitions. He capped an impressive season by being named PFA Scotland Player of the Year earlier this month.
Having said that, Arsenal must reignite their interest and sign the Scotsman in the summer transfer window.
Unai Emery will be disappointed to miss out on top four in his first season at the Emirates Stadium. Yet, Arsenal have a chance to qualify for the Champions League next season by winning the Europa League, where they’ll meet London rivals Chelsea in the final at Baku, Azerbaijan.
There’s a lot of room for improvement for the Gunners and a few fresh arrivals in the summer would certainly help them reach greater heights in the Premier League next term. While defensive reinforcements should be high on the Emery’s wishlist for the summer, Arsenal also need to bring in a forward to bolster their attacking options.
The north London giants have a prolific front two in Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, but they lack an out-and-out winger in their ranks. Mesut Ozil and Henrikh Mkhitaryan thrive in the no.10 role behind the striker, while Alex Iwobi is highly inconsistent.
Maybe, Emery should look to bring in Forrest to increase competition for places. Given that the Scotsman has hit great heights with Celtic, he might prove to be an upgrade on Iwobi.
Forrest is a winger by trade, noted for his blistering pace, dribbling skills and direct approach.
The Scotland international likes to use his pace and acceleration to cut inside from the flanks, allowing himself to create space and have a pop on goal from range. He is a diligent worker off the ball and a willing runner, always committed to the team’s cause.

Known for his crossing abilities and intelligent link-up play, the 27-year-old tends to move the ball around quickly in the final third and creates chances with his sharp passing. Forrest is no slouch when it comes to helping the team defensively and he is also equally adept at playing as a wing-back on either side of the pitch.
Verdict
Forrest is one of the best players in the Scottish Premiership and is a key figure in the current Celtic team. He is about to embark upon the peak years of his career, so Emery must not hesitate to splash the cash on the jet-heeled Scotsman to address one of his team’s most pressing problems.
