Three possible destinations for Zinedine Zidane besides Manchester United
Zinedine Zidane’s appointment as a Real Madrid manager may have raised some eyebrows. But the French football legend silenced those critics by winning three consecutive UEFA Champions League crowns, two FIFA Club World Cup trophies and a La Liga title. He also won the Spanish Supercup once and the UEFA Super Cup twice in his stay at the Bernabeu.
However, Zidane, quite surprisingly, stepped down from the helm of affairs at Madrid following their 3-1 victory over Liverpool in the UEFA Champions League final of 2018.
According to French source L’Equipe, he has expressed his willingness to try his luck in the Premier League, preferably as the manager of Manchester United.
Although Jose Mourinho has been at the receiving end of immense criticism for his tactical failures at Old Trafford, it doesn’t look like the board is ready to pull the trigger on the Portuguese boss right away. So, here are the three realistic destinations for Zidane as a manager:-
1. Juventus
Zidane was a world record signing for Real Madrid when he made his move to the Bernabeu from Juventus in 2001. He went on to become a successful manager for his former club Madrid. Hence, he should consider testing his credentials as a manager in the Serie A with Juventus as well.
Massimiliano Allegri has tasted commendable success at Turin, guiding the Old Lady to four consecutive Serie A titles from 2014 to 2018. Despite enjoying supremacy in Italy, Allegri hasn’t been able to guide Juventus to a UEFA Champions League trophy.
Zidane’s experience of winning three European titles as a manager and his successful stint at the club as a footballer earlier in the millennium should make him a perfect candidate for the manager.
2. PSG
Thomas Tuchel took over the reins from Unai Emery as the manager of PSG this summer. He currently has a 100% winning record as the club’s manager.
With the financial resources that PSG have, it is the dream destination for any manager in the world. However, despite having the backing of plentiful financial resources and several high profile names in their squad, the UEFA Champions League crown has somehow eluded the French giants.
Having achieved instant success at the European stage in his three-year stint with Real Madrid, Zidane should be one of the leading candidates to guide the French outfit to a successful Champions League campaign.
3. Wolverhampton Wanderers
According to L’Equipe, Zidane has expressed his interest in managing a Premier League club, preferably Manchester United. However, the future of Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford is still undecided.
According to The Sun, Manchester United have added Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santos to their list of candidates as a possible replacement for Jose Mourinho. And that might just open the door for Zidane to step in the vacant position if the Portuguese manager leaves the club for United.

It will be good for Zidane to begin his managerial career in the Premier League with a club like Wolves where the expectations are not too high. Santos has done an excellent job as the manager and Zidane would the ideal man to carry the winning mentality forward.
