Premier League Opinion: Alternative PFA Team of the season
The annually occurring PFA awards is a fairly prestigious event which is considered quite highly by fans and players of the Premier League alike.
Along with the awards, the PFA also releases its 11-man team of the best players from the season. While this year’s team did look strong, we believe that an alternative XI could give them a run for their money.
Here’s our alternative PFA Team of the Season:
GK – Allison Becker
The Brazilian has looked sketchy with the ball at his feet at times but has been completely solid in terms of making saves.
He has almost singlehandedly kept Liverpool in a multitude of Premier League ties and will be a key figure in their years to come.
RB – Matt Doherty
The Wolverhampton Wanderers right-back was an absolute revelation throughout the course of the campaign as he contributed to more than 20% of the total number of goals that they scored.
His darting runs down the right flank have made him one of the deadliest full-backs in the league.
CB – Jan Vertonghen
The Belgian centre-half was one of Spurs’ most assured players as the season progressed and he was certainly unlucky to miss out on a place in the PFA team of the year.
His omission was mostly down to the sheer brilliance of the opposing centre-halves.
CB – Antonio Rudiger
Chelsea’s German international centre-half Rudiger has been the hallmark of consistency right from the opening day of the season.
Even with the rest of the defence put in some horrendous displays along the way, the German ensured that he kept his head at all times and was a massive figure at the back for them this season.
LB – Lucas Digne
The Frenchman was signed from Barcelona at the start of the season and he’s managed to make quite the impact in Merseyside.
Boasting blistering pace, the youngster has managed to tear some of the league’s most solid defences down to shreds down his left flank this season. Having been one of Everton’s best performers, he’s assured a place in the team next season as well.
CM – Georginio Wijnaldum
The Dutchman played a total of 35 games for Jurgen Klopp’s 2nd-placed Liverpool side this season and he was one of their key figures in the midfield as well.
His defensive contributions are quite undersold while the attacking potential that he brings to the side is an added bonus.
RM – Son Heung-Min
The South Korean international has been considered Asia’s biggest footballing sensation and his brilliant displays in the Premier League and the Champions league have hoisted Spurs to the pinnacle of European football.
His consistent performances have helped the side from North London announce themselves on the big stage.
CM – Christian Eriksen
The Danish international midfield magician has stood out in a crowd of fairly average players at Tottenham this season.
His consistent displays in the middle of the park for Mauricio Pochettino’s side have hoisted to all the way up to the final of the Champions League.
CM – David Silva
The Spanish veteran is very much a season Premier League professional now and he’s shown that despite his rising age this season.
His inch-perfect passing has been a huge feature of Manchester City’s attacking play this season and the master playmaker has proven his worth once again.
LM – Eden Hazard
The Belgian craftsman has been
With more than 15 goals and assists in the league this term, Hazard has proven once again that he’s one of Europe’s most lethal predators on his day. His goals against Liverpool and West Ham only probe this further.
ST – Raul Jimenez
The Mexican striker was brought in on loan from Benfica by Nuno Espírito Santo at the start of the season. His goals have proved vital as this Wolves side managed to prove themselves as the best of the rest by finishing comfortably in 7th place.
Considering that Wolves are a side that just got promoted, what they’ve achieved is monstrous and Jimenez has been a key figure in that process.

ST – Pierre Emerick Aubameyang
The Gabonese international striker has been an absolute sensation since joining from Dortmund last season.
His starring displays and unreal finishing ability have helped the Gunners reach the Europa League final. With Champions League football hanging in the balance, Aubameyang will have to step up once again in the final at Baku.
