Three players Huddersfield Town can sign instead of Karlan Grant

The Evening Standard has reported that Scottish Premier League side Rangers have joined the race for young striker Karlan Grant. But, it has also been revealed (via the Sun) that Premier League side Huddersfield Town are chasing after the 21-year-old, whose current deal with Charlton Athletic expires at the end of the current season.

The in-form League 1 striker has produced 19 goals in 28 appearances this season and continues to grow as transfer rumours surround him, but has been unfazed by them so far. For Huddersfield, the fact that Steven Gerrard and his side are in the mix could prove to be an issue for the relegation-threatened side, especially given their transfer budget.

However, that being said, there are other players in the world the club can target and here are three potential options.

#3 Che Adams

Tall, rapid and in fine form, Championship star Che Adams has scored an impressive 14 goals so far this season and added four assists on top of that. While there are other suitors for the young 22-year-old, Huddersfield Town should consider making a move.

However, Birmingham City would be reluctant to sell their star player and things could get very complicated very fast for either side. But if the Terriers can show that they are more than willing to fight to get out of the relegation zone, Adams could make a great option up front. His pace and strength will be useful attributes to have in the Premier League and it would add another dimension to Huddersfield’s front line.

#2 Josh Maja

Another League 1 star, Sunderland’s Josh Maja has been yet another youngster in superb form for the club. With 16 goals in 30 appearances this season, the 20-year-old is Sunderland’s top scorer by some margin coming into the January window.

However, if Huddersfield Town move fast and convince Maja that his future lies at the John Smith’s Stadium, they will get one for the future. Like the other two players on this list, Maja’s pace and versatility will help in the future, but it’s his scoring abilities that Huddersfield need.

With a lethal eye for goal, Maja combines that with a great first touch and brilliant build-up play, which serves him well as a centre-forward. All in all, Josh Maja is a great candidate to lead the Terriers’ front-line if and only if he is given the chance.

#1 Ryan Cassidy

The youngest player on this list at 17, Watford striker Ryan Cassidy has been unfazed by his age and used it well at times. So far the youngster has already scored 25 goals last season, which includes a debut hattrick and with time, things will only improve. Halfway into this season and the Irishman already has 12 to his name, with plenty more coming in the near future.

For Huddersfield Town, however, what makes him the best option is the fact that like Karlan Grant, Cassidy’s contract will also expire soon. The 17-year-old signed a three-year deal when he joined the Hornets and now has only 18 months left, with contract negotiations at a standstill.

This makes him a great value for money option and if Huddersfield Town convince Ryan Cassidy that he has a first-team future, they will get a great striker.  Cassidy is an all-around forward which is a rare breed to find.
