Mauricio Pochettino is the right man to manage Manchester United
Jose Mourinho’s sacking has given rise to numerous speculations concerning the vacant position at Manchester United’s helm. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been appointed the caretaker manager but the club remains in search of a long-term replacement.
The name of Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has been tossed again and again (h/t The Telegraph) but with the Argentine tied to a long-term contract, the key is firmly held by Daniel Levy. Pochettino is certainly the most valuable asset at Tottenham, delivering and making them compete against the top teams with a limited budget.
The only way United can bring Pochettino to Old Trafford is if the Argentine himself is keen on taking on the job and is promised a decent budget and flexibility to work.
If Manchester United do manage to pull the deal off, however, I am fairly confident that Pochettino will turn out to be an ideal fit. At Tottenham, it often seems as if he has grown frustrated with his hand being tied in terms of the transfer budget. He is also not afforded full flexibility when it comes to selecting his targets.
At United, he is bound to have a decent transfer kitty and with the Red Devils’ ability to attract top talent and pay mouth-watering wages, Pochettino can help United fight for the title on a consistent basis in a few years.
The Argentine has made the most out of the players at his disposal and his ability to grow and nurture academy players is next to none. Manchester United’s academy is one of the best and the 46-year-old can certainly provide with chances by slowly moulding them and helping the youngsters in their development.
Every player who has arrived at Tottenham has gone on to improve a lot and the club have maintained an upward trajectory as well. In addition, Pochettino’s relationships with players, staff, and chairman have never soured and this sort of patience and calmness could be key to being a successful manager at United in the long term.
There are certainly no questions about his ability to manage, although he has struggled when it comes to winning trophies. But that shouldn’t be a deterrent in United going all out for Pochettino because he can slowly build up from scratch and enjoy a sustained period of success. It takes time for the players to buy into his philosophy but eventually, all of them do.

That said, it would be extremely difficult for United to lure Pochettino away from Spurs, especially when the new stadium is about to be completed. But that should not stop them from trying.
