Tottenham Opinion: Two ideal destinations for midfielder Victor Wanyama
According to a report from the Daily Mail, Victor Wanyama could be on his way out of Tottenham as the north Londoners plan to overhaul the squad in the summer to indicate the club’s first full season in their new stadium.
Wanyama, 27, has spent the majority of the campaign sidelined with a knee injury, limiting him to just 11 appearances and only two of those have been Premier League starts.
The Kenyan international is behind the likes of Harry Winks, Eric Dier and Moussa Sissoko in the pecking order and despite attaining full fitness now, he still can’t get into Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
Two seasons ago, the midfielder was one of the first names on Mauricio Pochettino’s team sheet. Mousa Dembele departed in January and Wanyama could follow him out of the door if Tottenham find him surplus to requirements.
Keeping everything in mind, here are two ideal destinations for Wanyama if he’s shown the door by Pochettino at the end of this season.
1. Everton
Given that Everton’s defence has been uncertain at best, a player like Wanyama would be invaluable for the Toffees.
Marco Silva’s side
Wanyama would be the ideal player to take control of the Everton midfield, breaking up play and adding some much-needed physicality to the team.
What Silva needs at the moment is a terrific shield for the back four and he could do much worse than sign Wanyama in the summer.
2. Newcastle United
Newcastle United need an overhaul in central midfield; Mohamed Diame is out of contract in the summer and Jonjo Shelvey has endured an injury-hit campaign, while Isaac Hayden is keen to leave Newcastle and return to the south of England for family reasons.
That’s enough for Rafael Benitez to prioritise signing a central midfielder this summer and Wanyama would be a brilliant fit for the Tyneside-based outfit.
Wanyama will add a bit more physical dimension to the midfield and has the ability to burst forward too with the ball. The Kenyan’s ball retention and tackling skills are two key assets of his game and when on song, he is a monster of a midfielder to come up against.

All in all, Wanyama to Newcastle will be an ideal move for both parties. Under Benitez, the 27-year-old could have an opportunity to further improve his game.
