Lando Norris of McLaren F1 lead for the majority of 2021 Russian GP before conceding his lead in the final laps
It was heartbreak for Lando Norris of McLaren F1 after the Brit conceded his long-held lead towards the end of the 2021 Russian GP.
Norris was cruising until the late 40s in the 53 lap race, until it began to rain. Norris in P1, and Lewis Hamilton in P2 were reluctant about switching to wet tires. All other drivers had pitted.
A while later, Hamilton decided to box too. Only Norris was left. The young Englishman decided to take things into his own hands, failing to obey his team’s commands.
Ultimately, in the 51st lap, Norris spun off the tracks, conceding his lead, before deciding to pit right before the final lap.
Poor Norris ended up finishing 7th. Totally undeserved. But, he should have played along with his team’s orders.
The McLaren man ended up winning the Driver of the Day. His only solace.
Twitter divided over Lando Norris 2021 Russian GP mishap
Although a lot of Tweets expressed concern and sympathy for ‘unlucky’ Lando Norris, a few called him cocky and disobedient.
As usual, Twitter was split like James McAvoy. Here are a few Twitter reactions:
It would have been back-to-back wins for McLaren F1 after Daniel Ricciardo cruised to victory at the Italian GP a fortnight ago. It was just not the evening for the team from Woking.
