“Heart in my mouth”- Lewis Hamilton reacts after taking out jack man at Russian GP

Lewis Hamilton took out Mercedes’ jack man during a pit stop at FP2 of the 2021 Russian GP

Lewis Hamilton had his heart in his mouth when he sent his jack man careening to the ground during a pit stop at Free Practice 2 of the 2021 Russian GP.

Hamilton came to a stop a tad bit later than he should have, causing his jack man to go off balance, and crash to the ground.

The Englishman apologized in no time, and the jack man was also seen giving the thumbs up once he got back on his feet.

Ham blamed it on magic – ‘Brake Magic’, that is found on the rear of the steering wheel. It is believed to generate heat to the front tyres immediately.

On the radio, Hamilton was told that the jack man was OK.

Later that evening, Mercedes provided an update clarifying that their front jack man was ok.

Lewis Hamilton reacts to Russian GP jack man incident

Lewis Hamilton, who himself was recovering from a nasty collision with Max Verstappen a fortnight ago, was shaken.

Taking to Instagram, Hamilton wrote what went through his mind, the moment he sent his jack man flying, while also acknowledging the fact that this was probably his first time taking out a mechanic.

Hamilton’s post read:

“I believe this is the first time I’ve taken out a mechanic in 14 years. My heart was in my mouth, I was so worried. Thankfully he was ok, pretty courageous to stand in front of the car like that. We all make mistakes, it’s part of the journey, but it’s how we come back from them that matters most.”
