Former F1 champion Mika Hakkinen will be taking part in the Race of Champions next year
Past and current generation – Mika Hakkinen and Valtteri Bottas will represent Finland next year at the 2022 Race of Champions.
The event is set to be held in Sweden on the 5th and 6th of February, 2022. The Swedish resort of Pite Havsbad will play host to the Race of Champions.
It is worth noting that the track will be a snow and ice track, the first time such a track is being used for the event.
The last time the event was held, was in 2019. The event which was held in Mexico was won by Benito Guerra.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, an esports version of the same was held in 2020.
Mika Hakkinen excited to race alongside Valtteri Bottas at Race of Champions
Valtteri Bottas had announced back in September that he would be taking part in the 2022 Race of Champions, which also marks his debut at the event.
An excited Mika Hakkinen took to Twitter to share the news of the same:
“I’m excited to race together with @ValtteriBottas representing #TeamFinland #ROCSweden #flatout #inzdr.”
Hakkinen was immense representing Finland during the late 1990s in F1. He won back-to-back titles in 1998 and 1999 with McLaren.
Bottas, for his part, has been a brilliant driver as well. Sidelined by arguably the greatest racer of all time, his teammate Lewis Hamilton, the Finn features in the list of top 10 most podium finishes among many other records.
