Lando Norris got the pole at the 2021 Russian GP in an enthralling fashion
Looks like it might be yet another brilliant weekend for the McLaren F1 team after young Brit Lando Norris finished on pole at the 2021 Russian GP.
Things were going fine for Lewis Hamilton until he crashed into the pitlane wall during Q3. Sochi and Hamilton!
Hamilton had been leading in Q3 and his pitlane entrance crash took place as he was preparing to go for his final charge. His front wing was damaged and had to be replaced.
However, Hamilton did come out for his final attempt. His timing was bettered by Carlos Sainz first.
And it looked like the Spaniard was heading for his first pole before Norris came in 0.5 seconds faster, to take his maiden pole.
Sainz finished second, and was closely followed by George Russell who drove superbly in wet conditions. Hamilton had to be content with 4th.
It was celebrations for the McLaren F1 team yet again, 14 days after they took P1 and P2 at Monza.
Here is how Twitter reacted to Norris’ maiden pole:
With Lando Norris taking the pole at the Russian GP, Lewis Hamilton would be kicking himself – blowing up a brilliant chance to start from P1 in a race Max Verstappen will be starting last.
Now, Ham has got work to do, starting in row 2 at P4. He might have a hard time getting past Norris.
