Here’s a look at the 2023 Qatar GP preview, schedule, live stream details and our predictions for the race at the Lusail International Circuit
The Qatar Grand Prix made its debut in the 2021 championship at the Lusail International Circuit. However, it was absent from the 2022 season due to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Nevertheless, it’s set to return in 2023, thanks to a 10-year contract. This race is unique as it’s the fourth full night race in the Formula One calendar, joining the ranks of the Singapore, Bahrain, and Sakhir Grands Prix. The upcoming Grand Prix is scheduled for the weekend of October 6th to 8th.
The Lusail International Circuit played host to the 20th race of the 2021 Formula One season, marking the debut of the Qatar Grand Prix. In preparation for the second edition of the Grand Prix, significant renovations and facility upgrades were undertaken, accompanied by a substantial capacity increase from 8,000 to 52,000 spectators. The track itself measures 5.419 kilometers (3.367 miles) in length, featuring an impressive main straight spanning 1.068 kilometers (0.664 miles). Additionally, artificial grass surrounds the circuit to prevent sand from encroaching onto the track surface.
The Circuit presents a set of formidable challenges for both drivers and teams in the world of Formula 1. Located in the desert state of Qatar, the scorching heat poses a significant challenge. The extreme temperatures can lead to tire degradation and engine overheating, forcing teams to find ways to keep their cars cool and their tires in optimal condition. Another distinctive feature of Lusail is its long straights, which allow for blistering high-speed racing. This demands exceptional engine power and aerodynamics, as teams strive to gain an edge in straight-line speed. However, these straights are punctuated by technical corners that require precise braking and handling, putting drivers’ skills to the test.
