Formula One World Champions: Who all have won the F1 title?
Formula One is the highest level of motorsport competition in the world. The F1 world title is the award given to the leading racer on points at the end of the season. A Formula One season consists of 22 races as of 2021. A total of only 33 drivers have ever won a Formula One Championship. However a total of 770 drivers have participated in total.
Amongst the 33 Formula One World champions Michael Schumacher, Lewis Hamilton and Juan Manuel Fangio stand tall above the rest. Both Schumacher and Hamilton hold the record of most title win with seven titles each.
Fangio however has the second most titles with five to his name. He was an Argentine racer who dominated the initial years of Formula One. Fangio drove for Alfa Romeo, Maserati, Mercedes and also Ferrari. He also raced for only eight seasons and won five titles.
Michael Schumacher is undoubtedly one of the biggest names in racing. Winning the World Championship a record seven times which was later tied by Hamilton. Schumacher raced for an incredible 21 seasons with the likes of Jordan, Benetton, Ferrari and also Mercedes.
Lewis Hamilton is a modern day legend. Matching Schumacher’s record in World Championships was something no one thought could be possible. But there you have Hamilton who has done it. He also holds the most race wins(99) and most pole positions(101) amongst many others.
If we talk about modern day legends Sebastian Vettel also comes to mind. Having won the World Championship four times in a row from 2010 to 2013 with RedBull. Vettel is also the youngest World Champion in Formula One. He won the 2010 World title at 23 years of age.
