The competitive season for Fortnite season 8 starts soon and here is everything you need to know about the new update.
Epic Games has released the 18.10 update for Fortnite with a handful of new features and improvements to the XP system to make the seasonal progression easier. Players can now earn XP from shared quests and boosted rewards from daily and character punchcards. After some early research done by the Fortnite community, the Season 8 Daily challenges and new Punch Cards will now all give 30,000 XP. This is basically double the amount of XP that players were getting in the past seasons.
However, considering all these boosts, Epic Games has reduced the XP given by weekly punchcards to lessen the setback of not completing the challenges. But the boosts given by all the other challenges are more than enough to cover the difference. A new item called Chili Chug Splash has also been added to the game after the update. Chili Chug Splash will restore health and shields and will also give you a speed boost. Two previously introduced items have also been added back into the game. You can now obtain OG Chug Splash and Hunter’s Cloak in the game.
There is always a new Battle Pass with a new season, but Season 8’s is particularly good. This is due in part to Epic’s use of the Battle Star system, which allows you to unlock rewards out of order. They can’t be unlocked in any order, but it’s less linear and gives players more options. The Battle Pass is also quite good because of the superb original skins, such as the vintage cartoon character Toona Fish and the fantastic Fabio Sparklemane, one of Fortnite’s best skins ever.
The crashed Mothership ruins have caused the most significant changes to the map. There are new purple aerial tracks at each of these ruins, similar to what we had for a while in Chapter 1. You can fly around on these, but you won’t get very far. Because each is limited to a single location, they will not be a means of fast travel like previous air tubes. There are purple Cubes near the crash sites, but there are also large cubes in other areas. The blue one is in the southeast corner of the map, between the mountains and the sea. It’s the one that players restarted on the Mothership, and it’s located at the Friendly Forest.
You can find the Gold Cube in the western part of the map, but Epic’s blog post about the new season includes the following line: “The Cubes are up to something, bet your bananas on that. I’m not too sure what the Golden one is all about, but the others seem to almost… follow it. Keep an eye on this for me, would ya?” Slurpy Swamp has been renamed Sludgy Swamp, and Corny Complex has been renamed Corny Crops, but most locations have remained unchanged, with the exception of Holly Hedges, which has reverted to its original state after becoming the alien-occupied Holly Hatchery.
When you drop into the map from the Battle Bus, you may spot a giant Orange bubble. It will change locations each time but keep an eye out for it as it is easy to spot. This orange bubble is a portal to another dimension called The Sideways. It is highly possible that it is a reference to the Upsidedown from Stranger Things. Inside this Orange bubble, you will find some monsters which are quite easy to beat. Fighting these monsters and other players will give you some superb rewards including special Sideways guns. If you search properly you will also find special Sideways chests that have better loot than the average chest.
The previous season had some awesome alien guns. This season we will get Sideways guns from the Orange bubble. They are not as good as the alien guns of the previous season. The Sideways rifle and the Sideways minigun are the only new guns introduced in the game so far.
Epic Games has added a new way to unlock more weapons in the game. Players can now donate Gold Bars as a community and unlock these new weapons and items in the game. The first item that will be unlocked is the Turret Gun. Once players have donated enough Gold Bars and the limit has been reached, the gun will be added back into the game.
