Four players Rafa Benitez must target to bolster Newcastle United

Amongst reports linking Rafa Benitez with the Spain job, the Newcastle manager is keen on improving his current squad. The Spaniard has performed miracles with the Magpies last season by keeping them in the top-flight.

However, the squad requires quality improvements in order to retain their status. And Benitez has a tall order ahead of him since Newcastle need a striker, a winger and a No. 10. In addition, he must also bolster his forces at the back.

With that in mind, here are the possible players who could work wonders for Newcastle next season.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek

The Chelsea and England midfielder can play as one of the central midfielders or as a No.10. He has the ability to create chances and pick out crucial key passes for the team. The 22-year-old possesses great strength, mobility and sharpness to play the role of a fabricator.

His addition will certainly bring quality to the Newcastle midfield. Loftus-Cheek’s stamina and work-rate is impeccable as well, something which will be highly regarded under the current Newcastle management.

With Chelsea keen to loan him out, the Magpies might get him for next season.

Danny Ings

Danny Ings is certain to leave Liverpool in search of regular first-team action and Newcastle might profit by offering him a deal. The former Burnley striker has the required tools to be a proper goal-threat. The 25-year-old works hard by pressing higher up the pitch and is adept at creating spaces for other players.

However, he needs to play regularly to revive his career and Benitez is known to be quite encouraging. The Magpies can expect goals and loads of work out of possession from Ings.

Andros Townsend

Townsend will bring an abundance of quality as a winger. He is already in talks with Newcastle about a possible move back to the club from Crystal Palace. The 26-year-old possesses fabulous dribbling skills and accurate crossing abilities. He can play at either wing in the forward line while delivering similar kinds of impact.

Newcastle need a winger in their squad as they are lacking in that department. With Matt Ritchie also linked with a move to Stoke City, it is high time that Benitez and his men seal a deal for Townsend.

Nathaniel Clyne

Clyne hasn’t taken part in Liverpool’s games since his return from injury. With Trent Alexander-Arnold ready to take up the first-choice role next season, the 27-year-old might need to switch clubs in search of regular game time.

Undoubtedly, Clyne is a quality player whose progress got hindered by injuries. However, he just needs to reignite his career to get back on track. Hence, Newcastle could benefit from having a player like him at the back.
