Fred Lorenzen Car Collections
In NASCAR, Fred Lorenzen’s wins came in his favourite Ford car. He won the 1965 Daytona 500 in a Ford Galaxie sponsored by Lafayette. Lorenzen also drove a 1966 Ford Galaxie, a stock car owned by Jimmie Johnson. It was known as the ‘Yellow Banana’. He also won the Atlanta 500 event in 1962 with his Ford car. Fred Lorenzen also owned replicas of his Ford Galaxie cars at his garage.

In 1970, Lorenzen drove Ford Torino Talladega in the Southern 500 and Cup Series. He also competed in the cup series in a Dodge Daytona for Fox Racing team. The vehicle was built by Ray Fox. Fred Lorenzen’s vehicle in his last NASCAR Cup series was Plymouth which he drove for Nichels Engineering. In the 1972 Winston Cup Series, Lorenzen drove Chevrolet and Ford cars. Lorenzen also secured two championships in the USAC Stock Car events with a Chevrolet.

Fred Lorenzen Car Accidents
Fred Lorenzen’s first major car accident was in 1964 in a practice at Daytona. He made contact with Goldsmith’s car after losing control. Lorenzen’s car was damaged by other drivers and his left wrist had a cut. After the incident, Fred Lorenzen missed the following races including the Firecracker 400 event.
In the 1967 Daytona 500, Lorenzen was driving in Ford and suffered a crash which damaged his ribs. Fred Lorenzen also suffered an accident in the same year while driving with his father. Though this didn’t take place during any racing events, Fred Lorenzen suffered major injuries and he retired from NASCAR. In 1966 Dixie 400, Lorenzen suffered a crash on lap 139 in his Yellow Banana. Apart from these, Fred Lorenzen suffered small injuries in NASCAR tracks like Daytona and Talladega during his career.

Lorenzen’s first car number in the Cup Series was #50 and #150 Chevrolet. In 1960, he drove for his own racing team in #28 Ford. Some of his other Ford car numbers were #28, #80, #0, #26, #21, and #44. Fred Lorenzen also drove #99 Orange Plymouth for Nichels Engineering which was sponsored by STP. His white and blue Ford Galaxie vehicles were sponsored by Lafayette Ford. Park Farm Cheese, Lou Miller and Ev’s County Line Pizza were his other sponsors for car paint schemes.

Fred Lorenzen secured the Daytona 500 title win in 1965 with his #28 Ford Galaxie for Holman-Moody. He also won two World 600 events in 1963 and 1965 with the same #28 Ford car. In the Winston Cup Series, Lorenzen drove #28 and #90 Ford cars. He also drove a #28 Chevrolet for Ellington Racing. Lorenzen also drove the #28 Ford Torino car which has yellow and orange designs with paint schemes from Good Year, STP, Royal Triton, and Lemon Tree.
