Xbox Game Pass is free for 8 months for Xbox players in India. The subscription is a gift from Microsoft to its Indian players, and it was announced to all users in an email sent out lately. The reason for this substantial gift appears to be a recent policy change by India’s Reserve Bank, which alters how recurring payments are handled in the country. Microsoft is reviewing its own recurring payment procedures as a result of this shift, but is offering this free membership to avoid any problems during the transition.
Existing Xbox Game Pass users in India will receive an 8-month free subscription, while new subscribers will receive a 7-month free subscription. Microsoft has sent an email to existing subscribers, citing the Reserve Bank of India’s new recurring payment mandates as the cause.
“The Reserve Bank of India recently added new requirements for processing recurring transactions through the RBI-E mandate, intended to enhance the safety and security of these transactions,” reads the email from Microsoft. “We at Microsoft are updating our payment systems to enable recurring payments in accordance with these requirements. In the meantime to help avoid disruption, we have added 8-months of Xbox Game Pass ultimate to your account at no additional charge so you don’t have to worry about making recurring payments during this time and can just enjoy playing games.”
Xbox Game Pass Pricing
For those who are unaware, Xbox Game Pass provides subscribers with access to over 100 free games as long as they remain subscribed. It’s similar to Sony’s PS Plus service, which is available on all of Sony’s platforms. Xbox customers typically pay roughly $15 per month (Rs. 699 per month) to maintain their subscription, making an eight-month bundle worth around $120. (Rs. 5600).
