Novak Djokovic is one win away from glory against debut finalist Stefano Tsitsipas
World No. 1 Novak Djokovic will be looking to win his 19th Grand Slam of his career as he faces Greek Stefano Tsitsipas in the French Open final.
The Greek reached his first Grand Slam final beating Alexander Zverev in a marathon battle on Friday.
In the other semi-final Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal produced one of the best matches in the modern era, with the Serb winning 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (4), 6-2.
Djokovic won the French Open in 2016 and could become only the third man to win each of the four Grand Slam tournaments twice, after Rod Laver and Roy Emerson.
Djokovic has progressed to the final after dropping 4 sets in his last 3 matches. Tsitsipas will look to take some inspiration from the fact and produce his best tennis.
Stefanos Tsitsipas (22 years, 305 days) is the youngest Roland Garros men’s singles finalist since Rafael Nadal (2008; 22 years, 5 days).
The final will be a repeat of last-year’s French Open semi-final, where Djokovic prevailed in five sets. The two have met only once in a Grand Slam.
Novak Djokovic v Stefano Tsitsipas Head-to-Head
The Serb dominates their head-to-head leading 5-2. He has won the last 4 encounters between the pair. Tsitsipas’ victories came in ATP 1000 tournaments in Shanghai and Canada.
Djokovic has won all their meetings on clay in the past, but Tsitsipas is having one of his best clay seasons in his career. He won in Lyon and Monte Carlo and reached the finals at Barcelona.
The clash will be pivotal in the history of the game, with the NextGen knocking on the door of the elites.
