French Open 2022 Previews: Rafael Nadal vs Jordan Thompson and Novak Djokovic vs Yoshihito Nishioka

Published by

Here’s a look at the French Open 2022 previews between Rafael Nadal vs Jordan Thompson and Novak Djokovic vs Yoshihito vs Nishioka.

Rafael Nadal vs Jordan Thompson Preview, Prediction and H2H Stats

Rafael Nadal had a great start to 2022 by winning the Australian Open. He then sustained a rib injury in the final of the Indian Wells Masters which caused him to miss the Monte-Carlo Masters and the Barcelona Open. He returned for the Madrid Open but lost to Carlos Alcaraz in the quarterfinals and then reached the third round of the Italian Open before losing to Denis Shapovalov.

Meanwhile, Jordan Thompson has managed just two wins on clay this season in 7 matches. The Australian’s best result at the French Open was back in 2019 when he reached the third round. He faces a monumental task ahead of him in the first round of the Roland Garros.

Nadal currently leads the H2H 1-0 over Thompson. Given that Nadal prefers playing on clay, our prediction is a win in straight sets for the Spaniard.

Novak Djokovic vs Yoshihito Nishioka Preview, Prediction and H2H stats

Novak Djokovic had a poor start to the clay-court season with a three-set defeat against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina at the Monte-Carlo Masters. The Serb fared much better at the Serbia Open, fighting his way to the final but the championship eluded him as he lost to Andrey Rublev. Djokovic seemed to find his feet at the Madrid Open but lost to Carlos Alcaraz in the semifinals. He eventually won the Italian Open by beating Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final before starting off his Roland Garros campaign.

Meanwhile, Nishioka suffered defeat at the BMW Open first round against Emil Ruusuvuori. He then failed qualify for the to main draw in Madrid, Rome and Lyon. The Japanese star has never got past the second round at the French Open.

Djokovic leads the H2H against Nishioka 2-0. Our prediction is a win in straight sets for the World No.1.
