Daniil Medvedev vs Laslo Dere Preview
Daniil Medvedev was on the sidelines for six weeks due to a hernia procedure after finishing runner-up at the Australian Open this year. The Russian then returned to action at the Geneva Open but lost to Richard Gasquet in his opening match. In the first round of the French Open, the 26-year-old beat Facundo Bagnis 6-2, 6-2, 6-2.
On the other hand, Laslo Dere got to the semifinals at the Grand Prix Hassan II in Marrakech earlier this year and has put in a string of commendable performances against the top-ranked players this season. However, the Greek star fought back to win the match in five. The youngster has impressed on clay this season by defending his title at the Monte-Carlo Masters and reaching the final of the Italian Open. He also reached the semifinals at the Madrid Open.
On the other hand, Kolar faced local favourite Lucas Pouille in the first round and beat the Frenchman 6-3, 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 to set up a meeting with Tsitsipas. The Czech star has been known to cause upsets in the past and will be hoping for another one on Thursday.
