Bernarda Pera will take on No.22 seed Donna Vekic in the second round of the French Open
Bernarda Pera of the US has been very impressive so far this season. She achieved her career-best singles ranking of World No.32 this year after a string of consistent results. She is concentrating more on playing singles now and as a result, her doubles ranking has dropped down at an all-time low (121). However, Pera’s sacrifices are bearing fruits as she continues to gain ground on the WTA singles circuit by leaps and bounds.
Pera has made a good start to the French Open. She won her first round match in convincing fashion against Anett Kontaveit. She is high on confidence after a string of positive results recently and would aim to go further into the tournament. However, the job only gets tougher now and it remains to be seen if Pera has what it takes to pull off an upset against the higher-ranked Donna Vekic.
Donna Vekic’s form coming into the match
Donna Vekic made a good start to the season with two consecutive quarter-final appearances at the Australian Open and the Linz Open before going on to win the Monterrey Open. However, her form hasn’t been the same recently and she is going through a rough patch.
The 22nd seed has come to Paris at the back of a first-round exit from the Madrid Open and an early exit from the Italian Open, which is pretty poor by her standards. There are high expectations from Vekic at the French Open and she has made a good start with a 6-2, 7-5 win against Dayana Yastremska. It remains to be seen if she can carve out the desired results going forward in the tournament.

Head to head and Predictions
Pera and Vekic have played each other once before on the WTA tour. Pera emerged victorious on that occasion in Abu Dhabi, 2021 and thereby leads 1-0 on head to head. On paper, the Croatian is the favourite both in terms of form and rankings. We can certainly expect Pera to put up a tough fight but the No.22 seed should eventually prevail. We are predicting a win in three sets for Donna Vekic.
