French star Diane Parry will take on Russia’s Mirra Andreeva in the second round of the French Open

Diana Parry is a regular on the ITF circuit and has played only a handful number of WTA events in her brief career till date. The French youngster is playing on home turf and has been pretty impressive so far in Paris. The 20-year-old began her campaign by causing a major upset against No.25 seed Anhelina Kalinina.

She beat the higher-ranked Ukrainian in straight sets 6-2, 6-3. Parry is young, athletic and certainly poses a real threat to her opponents. It will be interesting to see if she can continue her good form and progress deep into the tournament.

Mirra Andreeva’s form coming into the match

Mirra Andreeva has had a dream run so far at the French Open. The 16-year-old Russian has overcome three rounds of qualifiers to make it to the main draw of the clay-court Grand Slam. During her qualifying campaign, Andreeva notably defeated top seed Camilo Osorio Serrano in straight sets 7-6, 6-4.

She has carried forward the momentum to the main draw and registered a comprehensive 6-2, 6-1 victory against Alison Riske of the US in the Round of 128. However, it’s important that the teenager doesn’t get carried away and completely focuses on one match at a time. The job only gets tougher from here on and it will be interesting to see if Andreeva has what it takes to progress further in the tournament.

Head to head and Predictions

Parry and Andreeva have never played each other before on the WTA tour. This is the first professional head to head clash between the two players. On paper, Parry is the slight favourite both in terms of experience and rankings. However, one can certainly not rule out the promising Russian and she is expected to put up a tough fight. We are predicting a close match but Diane Parry should prevail in three sets.
