French Open 2023: Dominic Thiem vs Pedro Cachin – Preview, Predictions, Head-to-head and Stats

Published by

Dominic Thiem will face Argentina’s Pedro Cachin in the first round of the French Open

Dominic Thiem is a two-time runner-up at the French Open – in 2018 and 2019. However, the Austrian is well past his prime and it would be foolish to expect that he can replicate that feat this time around. After a long layoff of almost a year, Thiem is finally getting some consistent game time in 2023. The former World No.3 is coming to this tournament ranked No.91 and it remains to be seen how far he can progress in Paris.

Thiem is coming to the French Open with good memories of a commendable semi-final appearance at the Mauthausen Challenger tournament earlier this month. However, he suffered an early exit from the Bordeaux Challenger event last week. Consistency will be the key for the experienced Austrian in Paris, and it remains to be seen if he still has what it takes to play at the elite level.

Pedro Cachin’s form coming into the match

Pedro Cachin is currently ranked World No.68 in the ATP men’s singles rankings. The Argentine has been in decent form recently, but he hasn’t been consistent enough. He is the higher ranked player coming into this encounter but there is certainly no room for complacency against the very experienced Dominic Thiem. It is important that Cachin brings out his A-game in order to have any chance of progressing further into the tournament.

Head to head and Predictions

Thiem and Cachin have never played each other before on the ATP tour. This is the first professional head to head clash between the two players. On paper, Cachin is the slight favourite in terms of rankings. However, one can certainly not rule out the experienced Austrian and he is expected to put up a tough fight. We are predicting an intense encounter with Dominic Thiem eventually prevailing in four sets.
