Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina will take on No.2 seed Aryna Sabalenka in the quarter-finals of the French Open
Elina Svitolina has had a rapid decline in her career graph and is currently ranked 191 in the WTA singles rankings – a huge drop from her career-best ranking of No.3. Svitolina has been in terrible form of late barring the WTA 125 Saint Malo event last month, where she made it to the semi-finals. However, she has kind of redeemed herself in Paris and is on an incredible run at the French Open.
The Ukrainian began her campaign in Paris with a commendable victory over No.20 seed Martina Trevisan before getting the better of Australia’s Storm Sanders. She then went on to beat Russia’s Anna Blinkova in a high-voltage clash followed by another win against a Russian in the form of ninth seed Daria Kasatkina. Svitolina is now set to face another Russian star in Sabalenka and it remains to be seen if she can continue her fairy-tale run in the tournament.
Aryna Sabalenka’s form coming into the match
Russian star Aryna Sabalenka has been at her sublime best so far at the French Open. She is yet to drop a set in Paris and looks determined to win her maiden French Open title.
The No.2 seed began her campaign with a comprehensive victory against Marta Kostyuk before getting the better of Iryna Shyamanovich in the same fashion. In the third round, she defeated compatriot Kamilla Rakhimova followed by a dominating win against Sloane Stephens to progress to the quarters.
She looks in ominous touch and unless she messes up big time, the Russian should definitely be one of the strong contenders for the title.

Head to head and Predictions
Svitolina and Sabalenka have played each other twice before on the ATP tour. Both the encounters were close contests and the head-to-head stands at 1-1. On paper, Sabalenka is the favourite both in terms of form and rankings. However, one can certainly not rule out the determined Ukrainian and she is expected to put up a tough fight. We are predicting an intense encounter with Aryna Sabalenka eventually winning in three sets.
