Italy’s Cocciaretto will take on Bernarda Pera of the US in the third round of the French Open
Cocciaretto has been very impressive so far at the French Open. She began her campaign with an upset over No.10 seed Petra Kvitova in straight sets 6-3, 6-4.
The Italian then went on to beat Switzerland’s Simona Waltert in convincing fashion to progress to the third round. The job only gets tougher from here on though and it remains to be seen if Cocciaretto can go deeper into the tournament.
Bernarda Pera’s form coming into the match
Bernarda Pera of the US has been very impressive so far this season. She achieved her career-best singles ranking of World No.32 this year after a string of consistent results.
She is concentrating more on playing singles now and as a result, her doubles ranking has dropped down at an all-time low (121). However, Pera’s sacrifices are bearing fruits as she continues to gain ground on the WTA singles circuit by leaps and bounds.
Pera has made a good start to the French Open. She won her first-round match in convincing fashion against Anett Kontaveit and followed it up with a commendable victory against No.22 seed Donna Vekic. She is high on confidence after a string of positive results recently and would aim to go further into the tournament. However, the job only gets tougher now and it remains to be seen if Pera has what it takes to challenge for the title.

Head to head and Predictions
Pera and Cocciaretto have played each other thrice before on the WTA Tour. Pera has the upper hand, having won on two occasions and thereby leads 2-1 on head-to-head. The match is a difficult one to call as both players are in good form and have similar playing styles. It is most likely to boil down to who plays better on that particular day. We are predicting an intense encounter with Pera eventually coming out on top in three sets.
