Argentina’s Tomas Etcheverry will take on Jack Draper of the US in the opening round of the French Open
Jack Draper is an emerging star in the men’s circuit, and he has shown his class in recent tournaments. He is coming to Paris following a commendable quarter-final appearance at the Lyon Open last week. He began his campaign in Lyon with a convincing 6-2, 6-3 win against local favourite Alexandre Muller.
Draper then went on to pull off a major upset against the fifth seed Miomir Kecmanovic, beating the Serbian in straight sets 6-4, 7-5 before losing to No.4 seed Francisco Cerundolo in the quarters.
Draper is currently ranked No.60 in the ATP men’s singles rankings but he was as high as No.38 earlier this year. The 21-year-old has shown a lot of promise throughout the season, and he will look to continue his good form in his French Open debut. It remains to be seen if the youngster can put up a good display and make his maiden appearance at the Roland Garros, a memorable one!
Tomas Etcheverry’s form coming into the match
Tomas Etcheverry has been in good form and is coming to Paris at the back of a runners-up finish at the Bordeaux Challenger tournament.
The Argentine definitely prefers playing on clay and he will certainly fancy his chances against Draper. However, there is certainly no room for complacency especially on a stage like the French Open. It will be interesting to see who emerges victorious in this battle of potential next-gen stars.
