Czech star Karolina Muchova will take on Russia’s Pavlyuchenkova in the quarter-finals of the French Open
Karolina Muchova is on an incredible run at the 2023 French Open. She began her campaign with a huge upset over No.8 seed Maria Sakkari in straight sets 7-6, 7-5. In the second round, she got the better of Nadia Podoroska in three sets. The Czech star then went on to beat 27th seed Irina-Camelia Begu 6-3, 6-2 followed by a win against Elina Avanesyan to progress to the quarters.
This is Muchova’s best ever result at the French Open in her 10-year-long career and she will certainly fancy her chances of going deep into the tournament. The World No.42 has not quite been able to make a significant mark on the WTA tour till date, but this campaign has certainly put her in the limelight. She should be high on confidence coming into this encounter but there’s certainly no room for complacency especially against a tricky opponent like Pavlyuchenkova.
Pavlyuchenkova has turned back the years and put on a sublime display at the French Open. The former World No.11 began his campaign with a convincing win over Fruhvirtova before getting the better of seeded players like Samsonova (15), Potapova (24) and Elise Mertens (28). The Russian veteran has used all her experience and skills to progress to the quarters in Paris and it remains to be seen if she can go even further to make it her best-ever result at the French Open.

Muchova and Pavlyuchenkova have played each other thrice before on the WTA Tour. The Russian has the upper hand, having won two of the three previous encounters and thereby leads 2-1 on head-to-head. The match is a difficult one to call as both players are in good form and have similar playing styles. It is most likely to boil down to who plays better on that particular day. We are predicting an intense encounter with Karolina Muchova eventually coming out on top in three sets.
