Italy’s Lorenzo Sonego will take on Frenchman Ugo Humbert in the second round of the French Open
Lorenzo Sonego’s form coming into the match
Lorenzo Sonego has got his campaign off to a great start with a thrilling victory against Ben Shelton in the first round. He got the better off the No.30 seed in a thrilling encounter that lasted four sets with the scoreline reading 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3. The Italian hasn’t been in the best form of late but the win will certainly act as a major confidence booster for him. Sonego should aim to work on his consistency though if he has to go deep into the tournament in Paris. It will be a tough challenge but Sonego certainly has what it takes to beat anyone on his day.
Ugo Humbert’s form coming into the match
Humbert is going through a purple patch and has come to Paris after winning two Challenger titles in the last month. He won the Cagliari Challenger title in the first week of May and then went on to win the Bordeaux Challenger event last week. Humbert loves playing on clay and his recent results are a good reflection of that. The Frenchman would be aiming to maintain the rhythm on home turf and cause some major upsets at the Roland Garros.
Humbert won his opening round encounter quite comfortably against compatriot Adrian Mannarino. The job gets tougher from here on though and the room for error is minimum. Humbert will have the crowd support on his side though and it remains to be seen if the youngster can use it to this advantage and pull off an upset against his Italian counterpart.

Head to head and Predictions
Sonego and Humbert have played each other twice before on the ATP tour. Both the matches were closely fought and it stands 1-1 on head-to-head. On paper, the Italian star is the favourite both in terms of experience and rankings. We can certainly expect Humbert to put up a tough fight on home turf, but the Sonego should eventually prevail. We are predicting a win in four sets for Lorenzo Sonego.
