Czech star Jiri Lehecka will take on Marcos Giron of the US in the second round of the French Open
Marcos Giron has been pretty underwhelming so far this season. His best performance on the ATP tour this year came at the Dallas Open, where he reached the quarter-finals before losing to top seed Taylor Fritz.
His form has faded off since then and came to Paris at the back of a second-round exit from the Geneva Open. However, he has managed to get off to a good start in Paris and comfortably won his opening-round tie against Hamad Medjedovic. The American will be hoping to carry this momentum forward and go further into the tournament.
Lehecka is coming into this encounter following an epic win against No.21 seed Jan-Lennard Struff. It was a marathon five-setter which lasted close to five hours as the Czech star eventually emerged victorious 7-5, 1-6, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1. The youngster hasn’t been in great form ahead of the French Open but this victory must be a major confidence booster. Lehecka will be aiming to carry this positive momentum forward and cause more upsets.
Lehecka is currently ranked World No.40 in men’s singles and will certainly fancy his chances against Giron. The pressure will be on his senior counterpart and that should help the Czech ace to play his natural aggressive game. However, there is certainly no room for complacency and anything less than his best could potentially get him eliminated from the competition.
Date – Tuesday, 1st June
Court Type – Clay outdoor surface
Telecast – Tennis Channel
Start Time – To be Announced
Location – Paris
Match details – Second Round
Giron and de Lehecka have never played each other before on the ATP tour. This is the first professional head to head clash between the two players. On paper, Lehecka is the favourite both in terms of form and rankings. However, one can certainly not rule out the experienced American and he is expected to put up a tough fight. We are predicting a close encounter but Jiri Lehecka should prevail in four sets.
