Anna Bondar and Greet Minnen have been the surprise package in the women’s doubles draw of the French Open. It is safe to say that they have exceeded all expectations and are at a stage where they have nothing to lose.

They began their campaign with a hard-fought win over the pair of Sherif/Zidansek before getting the better of No.7 seeds Aoyama/Shibahara. In the third round, they emerged victorious in a thrilling clash against the twelfth seed Olmos/Muhammad to progress to the quarters.

Pegula/Gauff’s form coming into the match

Jessica Pegula and Coco Gauff form a strong doubles pair and they have already won two WTA doubles titles this year – the Qatar Open and the Miami Open. Pegula and Gauff complement each other’s playing style very well and it shows in their recent results. The American duo finished runners-up in their two previous events – the Madrid Open and the Italian Open. They will definitely look to go a step better at the French Open in Paris.

They began their campaign with a solid 6-2, 6-2 win over Siegemund/Zvonareva in the first round and followed it up with an impressive win against the veterans Azarenka/Haddad Maia. The American pair then went on to beat No.13 seeds Kostyuk/Ruse in a thrilling three-setter to storm into the quarters. It’s time for the business end of the tournament and they will certainly enter this encounter as favourites but there is definitely no room for complacency.

Head to head and Predictions

Bondar/Minnen and Gauff/Pegula have never played each other before on the WTA tour. This is the first professional head-to-head clash between the two pairs. On paper, Gauff/Pegula are the favourites both in terms of experience and rankings. However, one can certainly not rule out the promising Hungary-Belgian pair and they are expected to put up a tough fight. We are predicting an intense encounter with Gauff and Pegula eventually winning in three sets.
