Rebecca Peterson will take on China’s Wang Xinyu in the second round of the French Open
Rebecca Peterson is currently ranked 187 in WTA women’s singles. The Swedish ace hasn’t had the best of seasons so far but she has managed to get off to a good start in Paris.
She defeated home favourite Fiona Ferro in straight sets 6-2, 6-0 in the opening round of the tournament. Peterson will be eager to carry this good form into her upcoming encounter against China’s Wang Xinyu. Peterson has never made it beyond the second round of the Roland Garros and it remains to be seen if she can better that record this time around.
Wang Xinyu’s form coming into the match
Wang has got her campaign off to a great start following a comprehensive 6-4, 7-6 win over Marie Bouzkova. The Chinese youngster isn’t quite a regular at the WTA level but she hasn’t let the occasion get the better of her. Her best performance so far this season has been a semi-final appearance at the Hua Hin Championships in February. However, she hasn’t been consistent enough during the course of the season and that is something she definitely needs to work on.
Everything aside, this is a great opportunity for the Chinese youngster to express herself. This is her first ever second round appearance at the French Open and she ought to enjoy herself thoroughly. Things will be tough but if she brings out her A-game, a win is very much on the cards.

Head to head and Predictions
Peterson and Wang have played each other twice before on the WTA tour. Both the matches were closely fought and it stands 1-1 on head to head. On paper, Peterson is the slight favourite both in terms of experience and rankings. We can certainly expect Wang to put up a tough fight on home turf but the Swedish ace should eventually prevail. We are predicting a win in three sets for Rebecca Peterson.
