Swiss star Jil Teichmann will take on Italian Sara Errani in the opening round of the French Open
Italian veteran Sara Errani is coming to Paris following a commendable Semi-final finish at the WTA 125K event in Florence last week. The former World No.5 is way past her prime and is ranked No.78 currently but continues to be one of the most experienced players in the WTA circuit. Errani’s best performance till date at the French Open came in 2012, when she finished runners-up.
It is safe to say that she can realistically no longer aim to match that feat but she is certainly capable of giving the younger ones a run for their money. It will be interesting to see how far Errani can progress especially what could be her career’s last French Open.
Jil Teichmann’s form coming into the match
Jil Teichmann was considered to be one of the emerging stars of the WTA circuit not so long back but she has had a drastic fall. Her breakthrough as a senior player came in May 2019 when she won her first WTA title in Prague. She was ranked as high as world No. 21 in singles in 2022.
She has won two singles titles and one doubles title on the WTA Tour along with one doubles title on WTA 125 tournaments, plus six singles and five doubles titles on the ITF Women’s Circuit. However, 2023 has been far from ideal for her and she is currently ranked World No.58.
Teichmann is coming to Paris following early exits from a number of WTA tournaments. Her only notable performance so far this year has been a quarter-final appearance at the WTA 125K Catalonia event earlier this month. She will be desperate to get things back but it’s not going to be easy at all. It remains to be seen if Teichmann can get her mojo back and put up a good display in Paris.

Head to head and Predictions
Errani and Teichmann have never played each other before on the WTA tour. This is the first professional head to head clash between the two players. On paper, Teichmann is the slight favourite in terms of rankings. However, one can certainly not rule out the experienced Italian and she is expected to put up a tough fight. We are predicting an intense encounter with Jil Teichmann eventually winning in three sets.
