Russia’s Mirra Andreeva will take on top seed Camila Osorio Serrano in the third round of qualifiers at the French Open
Camila Osorio has come to Paris at the back of a commendable Italian Open campaign. She was quite a revelation in Rome – overcame two rounds of qualifiers to progress to the main draw of the tournament.
In her opening encounter, Osorio defeated Varvara Gracheva in a thrilling match played over three sets before pulling off an upset against 29th seed Petra Martic. She didn’t just stop there and went on to achieve the best result of her campaign so far – registering a straight sets win over No.5 seed Caroline Garcia. She eventually lost to 12th seed Haddad Maia in the Round of 16.
The Colombian has carried her good form to Paris. She has already won two rounds of qualifiers. Osorio has won both matches in convincing fashion and hasn’t dropped a set. She will be aiming to progress to the main draw of the clay-court Grand Slam and a tricky opponent in the form of Mirra Andreeva stands in her way.
Mirra Andreeva has been equally good and dominant so far in Paris. Just like her next opponent, she is yet to drop a set so far during the qualifying phase. She began her campaign with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Polina Kudermetova in the first round of qualifiers.
In the second round, she got the better of Emiliana Arango in straight sets to set up a clash against top seed Osorio Serrano. It will be an uphill task for Andreeva in this encounter and it remains to be seen if she can pull off a major upset.

Osorio Serrano and Andreeva have never played each other before on the WTA tour. This is the first professional head-to-head clash between the two players. On paper, the Colombian is the favourite both in terms of form and rankings. However, one can certainly not rule out the promising Russian and she is expected to put up a tough fight. We are predicting a close encounter but Osorio Serrano should prevail in straight sets.
