French Open Qualifiers 2023: Juan Cerundolo vs Hamad Medjedovic – Preview, Predictions, Head-to-head and Stats

Published by

Argentina’s Juan Cerundolo will face Hamad Medjedovic in the second qualifying round of the French Open

Juan Cerundolo is the younger brother of well-known Tennis player Francisco Cerundolo. Juan is a regular on the Challenger and unlike his brother, doesn’t feature too much on the ATP tour. The 21-year-old is a promising talent though and is making rapid strides in his professional career. He has had a decent season so far, with the major highlight being a quarter-final appearance at the Cordoba Open in February; where he notably got the better of top seed Diego Schwartzman.

Cerundolo is coming into this match following a comprehensive 7-6, 6-3 victory against Zachary Svajda in the first qualifying round. The Argentine is seeded No.4 in the qualifying phase and will be confident about his chances of making it to the main draw. However, there’s certainly no room for complacency and it remains to be seen if Juan can join his brother in the Round of 128, starting on May 28.

Hamad Medjedovic’s form coming into the match at French Open

Serbia’s Medjedovic is ranked No.168 in the ATP men’s singles rankings. The teenager had been playing at the junior level recently before taking the big leap to the ATP senior level. The 19-year-old showed tremendous determination to come back from a set down and win 2-6, 7-6, 6-4 in the first-round qualifier match against Ivan Gakhov. Though the Serb lacks the experience of playing against the big boys he is certainly no pushover. It remains to be seen if he has what it takes to cause an upset against the much-fancied Cerundolo.

Head to head and Predictions

Cerundolo and Medjedovic have never played each other before on the ATP tour. This is the first professional head to head clash between the two players. On paper, Cerundolo is the favourite both in terms of form and rankings. However, one can certainly not rule out the promising Serbian and he is expected to put up a tough fight. We are predicting a close match with Cerundolo eventually pulling it off in straight sets.
