Fyter Fest Day One Results and Grades: AEW brought up Fyter Fest in place of their regular Dynamite show and split the PPV over two weeks.
The first day had several title matches but not the AEW championship clash. There were some fantastic performances too and here are the results and grades from Fyter Fest Day One.
MJF and Wardlow tried all they could in this tag match against Luchasaurus and Jungle Boy. The faces had their moments too but it seemed that MJF and his partner were going to win.
However, MJF’s decision to use the ring, again, proved costly as he hit his partner which led them to lose.
Jurassic Express beats MJF and Wardlow
Grade B
This was a great match to start off Fyter Fest and it highlighted MJF’s heel nature. Jurassic Express getting the win was right and it will be interesting to see what happens next with them.
Hikaru Shida put up her AEW Women’s title on the line against Penelope Ford. Kip Sabian was sent to the back by the referee but he tried to interfere later on.
Shida and Ford both had great chances to win the title, however, it was the champion that kept hold of her crown.
Shida beats Ford
Grade A
Shida is one of the best female wrestlers on the planet and she showed it off again. Ford, however, has been incredible over the past few months and gave a real fight to the champion.
A lot was said coming into this TNT title match between Cody Rhodes and Jake Hager. Hager and Cody went after each other and at one point, it seemed that the former MMA star would lock the champion into a submission hold.
However, Cody countered by putting Hager in a pin and kept hold of the title. Hager’s wife also took a shot at Cody, however, that was not enough to keep the champion away from the crown.
Cody beats Hager
Grade A
This was always going to be a good match between two quality of the best in the business and Cody keeping the title was expected though.
He is the first TNT champion and it will be interesting to see how he does the open challenge in the coming weeks.
Marq Quen and Isiah Kassidy had Matt Hardy coming out to support them while Santana and Ortiz prepared for the tag clash.
While Ortiz and Santana might be the more experienced pair, it was Quen and Kassidy who got the win.
Private Party beats Santana and Ortiz
Grade B
Ortiz and Santana looked great in the ring, as they should given their talent and experience. However, Private Party were the real winners as they put themselves in the running for the tag titles with this performance.
Kenny Omega and Adam Page were the champions as they took on the Best Friends.
Chuck Taylor and Trent had some close calls to win the titles over. However, Omega and Page kept hold of their titles.
FTR came out to hand over some beer to the winners but an argument broke out in the middle before the Young Bucks cooled all those in the ring.
Grade A
This was a fantastic match to close out the first day of Fyter Fest. Omega and Page are tag champs for now, but that will surely end after the FTR vs Bucks match happens in the future.
