York attended Orange Lutheran High School in Orange, California. He became the school’s all-time leading scorer as a senior, averaging 24.9 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 2.3 steals per game.
York appeared in only 15 games as a freshman for Arizona, filling in for former NBA player Nick Johnson. York’s playing time increased as a sophomore, as he appeared in all 38 games and helped the Wildcats reach their second Elite Eight appearance.
