Gael Monfils reveals there are no changes in schedule despite last year’s injury problems

For the first time in his career, Gael Monfils won back-to-back titles winning at Montpellier and Rotterdam respectively

In-form tennis star Gael Monfils revealed that there would be no change in his schedule despite injury problems from last year.

World No.9 Monfils is in terrific form having won back to back titles at Montpellier and Rotterdam a few weeks back.

He is currently taking part in the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championship which kicked off on Monday.

The French tennis player was talking to the tournament’s broadcasters on a range of topics when he was asked the question if his injuries from the previous season had brought a change in his current schedule.

“Maybe I will try to win more matches and it will be different. No scheduling, no. It’s almost the same you know, try to play the big tournament and for sure try to be 100 percent.

“It is never easy for myself but I try to do it a bit differently with my team. We know we learn from the mistake or not so. I will see, hopefully. I have the same amount of wins…even more and then see how the body reacts.”

Monfils, who played the tournament last year, managed to reach the semi-finals before losing to runner-up Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Monfils extends winning streak to 10 matches

Meanwhile, third seed Monfils, who started his Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championship campaign with a victory over Marton Fucsovics, has extended his winning streak to 10 matches.

Monfils overcame the Hungarian 6-4, 7-5 to record his sixth win in nine matches at the ATP 500 tournament. The Frenchman, who advanced into the next round will next meet the winner of Yasutaka Uchiyama -Yen-Hsun Lu clash in the first round.
