A recent GameStop social media advertisement for Xbox Series X|S consoles promotes “Microsoft Game Pass” rather than “Xbox Game Pass.”
The Gaming community especially the Xbox players were taken by surprise because of the GameStop Tweet recently. Amid all the drama of speculating Xbox games being made available to PlayStation, GameStop revealed the ‘Microsoft Game Pass’ on their website in an Ad. While it is said it will be no different from the traditional Xbox Game Pass, this will be the first time we will see a game pass being sold outside Microsoft platforms.
GameStop put up an Ad promoting the Microsoft Game Pass to be added on the Xbox Demo Day on 10th February. However, they took down the banner from their website leaving everyone in confusion. The Advertisement promises benefits similar to the Xbox Game Pass and much will be revealed at the event.
The gaming community on X (Twitter) and Reddit had their say about the latest addition. Microsoft official Jez Corden tweeted to address the chaos and set a few facts straight. He said the concept of Microsoft Pass’ is the sole Gamestops’ idea. Additionally, he also added, “The brand is still Xbox Game Pass / PC Game Pass with no planned changes right now.”
Rumours and stories ahead of Microsoft Game Pass started circulating over the weekend of February 3 suggesting that Xbox was considering (or at least discussing) moving several of its major exclusives to PlayStation. These included Gears of War, Halo, and Starfield. Some of the more, well, “passionate” Xbox enthusiasts initially dismissed the rumours on the internet.
However, as more people verified the information, Xbox insiders started to hear similar rumours, and Xbox CEO Phil Spencer obliquely addressed the rumours while promising more details the following week. Xbox Game Pass Ultimate is a worthwhile subscription for players because it comes with extra benefits including in-game deals from other developers and an EA Play membership.
With the addition of the Microsoft Game Pass, the store can be widened reaching different platforms ahead of the rumours that Xbox games would soon be available on the PlayStation 5 have raised the possibility that Xbox will be branching out to other platforms.
