Originally from Seattle, he started to play basketball at young age His father was involved with the Seattle SuperSonics. He initially ignited his basketball career at Spring Valley High School. He also spent a year swimming. But he graduated from Westwind Preparatory Academy because he got transferred for the last two years there. He was productive and efficient on the court making him one of the top-performing players in his class. Not much is known about his time in High school so it can be said that he was a star player with stellar statistics He was a four-star prospect and received offers from top-tier schools in the country. He initially committed to Saltlake Community College.
He spent 2 years at Saltlake Community college after which he transferred to Oregon State University and became a part of the Oregon State Beavers men’s basketball program he wanted to dominate the court so he spent as much time as he could on the court and was hell-bent on improving his play. His statistics during his freshman are not known but he did really level up his standards in his sophomore season. his father Gary Payton was also a Beaver and a Hall of Famer at Oregon State University.
