China’s Wu Yibing will take on No.3 seed Alexander Zverev in the Quarter-finals of the Geneva Open
Alexander Zverev has not been in the best of form since making a comeback from injury earlier this year. The German star is desperately looking for some consistency after a string of poor results in his recent tournaments. He has made a good start to the Geneva Open though and would be aiming to capitalise on it heading into the French Open next week.
Zverev is the third seed in the tournament and one of the favourites to win the title. He began his campaign in Geneva with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Christopher Eubanks. He will be confident about his chances against Wu Yibing but there is certainly no room for complacency.
Wu Yibing’s form coming into the match
2023 has turned out to be a breakthrough year so far for Wu. He became the first Chinese man in the Open Era to reach, and to win, an ATP Tour-level singles final, having achieved the feat at the Dallas Open earlier this year. He achieved his career-best ranking of World No.58 earlier this year and will be aiming to continue his dream run for the rest of the season.
The Chinese ace began his campaign in Geneva with a hard-fought victory against local favourite Marc-Andrea Huesler. He then went on to register a comprehensive 7-6, 6-3 win over Italy’s Marco Cecchinato. The job only gets tougher though and there is no doubt that Wu will face an uphill task against the much higher-ranked Alexander Zverev. However, the Chinese youngster is certainly capable of beating anyone on his day.

Head to head and Predictions
Zverev and Wu have never played each other before on the ATP tour. This is the first professional head to head clash between the two players. On paper, Zverev is the favourite both in terms of form and rankings. However, one can certainly not rule out the promising Chinese youngster and he is expected to put up a tough fight. We are predicting a close match with Alexander Zverev eventually winning in straight sets.
