Chile’s Nicolas Jarry will take on top seed Casper Ruud in the Quarter-finals of the Geneva Open
Norwegian tennis star Casper Ruud has come to Geneva at the back of a Semi-final exit from the Italian Open last week. The Geneva Open is an ideal warm-up event for Ruud ahead of next week’s all-important French Open. The No.1 seed will aim to put on a string of consistent results and be at the top of his game heading into the clay courts of Paris.
Ruud showed his class in the opening round against J.J Wolf of the US. He cruised to a 6-3, 7-5 victory and clarified his intentions to the rest of the field. Ruud is the favourite to win the crown but what’s more important for him is to maintain consistency in his game and avoid any freak injuries. It remains to be seen if Ruud exerts his best efforts going forward or just treats this as a warm-up event.
Nicolas Jarry’s form coming into the match at Geneva Open 2023
Jarry is coming into this match following a walkover from No.6 seed Tallon Griekspoor in the previous round. The Chilean began his campaign with a comprehensive straight-sets win against Dusan Lajovic in the first round and was lucky to get a walkover against a higher-ranked opponent in the next one.
Jarry hasn’t been in the best of form and suffered two consecutive first-round exits in his previous two tournaments – the Madrid Open and the Italian Open. He will look to capitalise on the good start at Geneva and play his best game heading into the French Open.

Head to head and Predictions
Ruud and Jarry have never played each other only once before on the ATP tour. The Norwegian emerged victorious in their sole encounter in Seoul, 2022 and thereby leads 1-0 on head to head. On paper, Ruud is the favourite both in terms of form and rankings. However, one can certainly not rule out the Chilean star and he is expected to put up a tough fight. We are predicting a close encounter with Casper Ruud eventually winning in three sets.
