Are you also looking for more information about Genshin Impact Cryo Archon? Read this article till the end to know everything about it.
In recent years, the mystery behind Teyvat has been growing. Another mystery that surrounded the narrative of the game was Tsaritsa. If you have followed the game’s basic lore, then you must have figured out who Cryo Archon is.
The Tsaritsa is one of The Seven and the Cryo Archon who rules over Snezhnaya. Her exact Archon name and ideal are unknown. However, who is she really though? Let’s find out more in this article.
From whatever we can put together as of now, the Tsarista is the Cryo Archon who presides over Snezhnaya. Snezhnaya is the land where Fatui comes from. You must be familiar with Tataglia A.K.A. Childe. Some other notable Fatui Harbingers are Signora and Scaramouche.
While early in the game, it was already established that the main antagonist of the game is the Fatui which is led by Tsarista herself. Tsarista uses their loyalty to carry out missions such as retrieving all the Gnoses from the other Archon.
If you thought that the Cryo Archon’s name is Tsarista, you are wrong. It is the title given to her because Snezhnaya is based in Russia. Tsarista is the Russian word that means ‘Empress’ or ‘Queen’ which befits someone as powerful as her.
Another Archon who is mentioned in the game by their title is Raiden Shogun. Players encounter the Shogun who presides over Inazuma before meeting Ei. Shogun, much like Tsarista, is a Japanese term similar to denote a military leader or a dictator.
If you thought Tsarista is the original Cryo Archon, well again, you are wrong. The story quests in Genshin Impact deeply elaborate on what went down during the Archon War. However, nothing is revealed about the reasons behind the Archon War or how it began. During the Archon war, there was another different Cryo Archon. It was only after this event that the Tsarista proclaimed herself as Snezhnaya’s Archon. Furthermore, the former Cryo Archon emerged victorious in the Archon War.
There are several theories to refute or accept this claim. When Dainsleif made a brief description of the Archons, he mentioned “love” when talking about the Tsarista. The other Archons in question are gods of contracts (Zhongli), freedom (Venti), and eternity (Ei). If we assume that the Cryo Archon is the ‘God of Love’, that really does not fit with the profile of a bad guy for this game.
Dainsleif further explains that Tsarista has no love left for her people anymore and her followers only stick through her because of their loyalty. Dainsleif also adds that the Tsarista is now preparing for her rebellion against the divine which may seem like she is going against Celestia.
In contrast to this, Tartaglia (Childe) describes Tsarista as a gentle soul. According to Childe, the events of the Cataclysm drove her to harden herself and declare war against the whole world. Tartagila justifies Tsarista’s declaration of war is because she dreams of peace.
Tartaglia, as mentioned above, talked about how the Tsarista is hardening herself for her war against the world. This claim was supported by Tsarista’s description found in the Shivada Jade Gemstone which said the following:
“Sorry… to also have you shoulder the grievances of the world. Since you could endure my bitter cold, you must have the desire to burn? Then, burn away the old world for me.”
The official lore of Genshin Impact explains that the Cryo Archon only became this way after the events of the cataclysm. The cataclysm refers to the fall of Khaenri’ah which took place over 500 years ago. It is regarded that Celestia was the one who had caused the fall of Khaenri’ah.
When Dainsleif mentioned about Tsarista’s rebellion against the divine, the divine here might refer to Celestia. It is possible that after gathering all the Gnoses, Tsarista will try to fight back against Celestia.
Celestia is extremely powerful for the Archons to face her head-on. For example, Makoto was the one previously presiding over Inazuma. However, she met her ultimate demise during the cataclysm and passed away in Khaenr’ah. Currently, Ei, the Electro Archon, presides over Inazuma.
In Genshin Impact, the best part about the lore is that not every good guy would be perfect or every bad guy is the worst. It’s a perfect challenge to the pre-established binaries of storytelling and gaming narratives for RPGs. Let’s take the example of Venti and Zhongli. They were the rulers of their respective territories, yet they failed to live up to their task to look after their regions. Ei and Tartaglia seemed like villains at the start but through the progression of the storyline, the players got to know them better and understand their narratives.
It does not matter who is good or bad in Genshin Impact because every character is equally flawed, just like human nature. There might be valid reasons for Tsarista’s current actions, however, we are not negating the fact that some of her actions are unforgivable. However, some theories suggest that Tsarista is not the one ruling over the Fatui. All of these are speculations as of now, and we might get to know more in the next Snezhnaya chapter in Genshin Impact.
