Gerhard Berger ‘confident’ of Porsche and Audi joining F1 in 2026

Ex-Formula 1 driver Gerhard Berger believes that race fans will be able to see Porsche and Audi enter the F1 scene in 2026.

Gerhard Berger is strongly convinced that Porsche and Audi will be joining Formula 1 when the power unit regulations undergo a major overhaul in 2026. There have been plenty of reports suggesting that The Volkswagen Group is set to be involved in top-tier motorsport racing via its Porsche and Audi brands.

Despite no official confirmation of the news from either party, it is believed that the Volkswagen Group is closely monitoring the rules and regulations in Formula 1, which will once again bring in a new dawn of hi-tech cars in 2026. Nevertheless, Gerhard Berger is convinced that a deal between Porsche and Red Bull is on the cards.

While speaking to Speedweek.com earlier this week, Gerhard Berger revealed his feelings on potential new entries in Formula 1 in 2026. Gerhard was asked whether .”I think with both brands (Audi and Porsche). Porsche and Red Bull Racing seem to me to be fixed. For Audi, there are probably still three teams in question.

Only a few months ago, multiple reports claimed that Audi and McLaren had reached an advanced state in striking a deal, with the Woking-based team set to accept engines from Audi. But both parties subsequently denied the suggestions.

The possibility of starting a whole new team in Formula 1 might be too expensive for any of the VW brand manufacturers. However, there is a chance that the parent company might buy off one of the existing teams on the grid.
