This article discusses about the Gigantic Rampage Edition that is coming back for gamers to embrace.

Launched in 2017 and shut down the following year, Gigantic, the free-to-play team brawler from a former StarCraft and Guild Wars designer, is making a comeback as Gigantic Rampage Edition. On April 9th, a premium and ultimate version of the original will be released; it is no longer free to play.

Gigantic Rampage Edition Overview

Developer Motiga announced the closure of MOBA-hero shooter hybrid Gigantic in 2018, fewer than a year after its launch. The vibrant mash-up of two well-known genres in Gigantic had a favorable welcome at first, but the game “did not resonate with as many players as we’d hoped,” according to the developers at the time.

However, in 2024, Gigantic will resurrect itself with the release of Gigantic Rampage Edition. Gigantic Rampage Edition would cost $19.99 and be a paid game, unlike the previous free-to-play edition of the game, which had aspirations of having an ongoing live service.

However, when Gigantic Rampage Edition officially launches on April 9, it will include fresh content and be available on more devices. The original game was only available on PC and Xbox One, therefore it’s destined for PlayStation4, PlayStation5, Windows PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. Launching on Steam this Thursday, February 22, is a closed beta. On the Steam page for Rampage Edition, interested gamers can register for a chance to play.

Gigantic Rampage Edition Gameplay

Gigantic Rampage Edition is an enhanced and feature-rich version, not just a simple rehash. Along with the original 23 heroes, there will be two new ones, two new maps, and a brand-new game mode called Rush. Rush mode is intended to be “more accessible, fast-paced, and action-packed” than the standard mode, Clash, which is also returning, according to the Steam page. Additionally, there will be personalized matches, and a Ranked mode will be included once the game launches.

Gigantic Rampage Edition is being developed by Abstraction, a company best known for helping other studios with co-development, and published by Gearbox. Shortly after the game’s release, Motiga, the original developers, shut down. In case you’re wondering how Gearbox came to possess Gigantic, Perfect World produced the first game, which was then acquired by Embracer in 2021. Embracer is also the owner of Gearbox.

Crossplay on all platforms, a new ranking system, quality of life enhancements, and material that the original creator Motiga was unable to include are just a few of the new features that Gigantic Rampage Edition will offer. In addition to finishing some of Motiga’s unfinished work, Bart Vossen, senior game designer at Abstraction, told Polygon in an interview that the creators “respect what the original developers did and respect what players loved about it.” More cosmetics are also on the way so that each hero can have a different look. Free of charge, those cosmetics will be made available, and Abstraction intends to roll out recurring seasons with cosmetic incentives and necessary adjustments to the gameplay balance.

The addition of a progression system like to other MOBAs is one of the main modifications. This lets you alter your hero’s build to suit your own playstyle, just like Overwatch 2’s PvE modes were supposed to do before Blizzard decided to drop them last year. It appears as though Gigantic Rampage Edition is deliberately trying to distance itself from the game that was formerly its main rival.
